Fixed Deposits

A dependable foundation for capital preservation. Allocate your savings into secure bank fixed deposits to establish structured, predictable growth for your financial future.

What it is: A Fixed Deposit (FD) is a financial agreement where you deposit a specific sum of money with a registered banking institution or non-banking financial company (NBFC) for a pre-determined tenure at a guaranteed interest rate.

How it works: The capital remains locked for the selected tenure (ranging from 7 days to 10 years). Interest compiles on a cumulative basis (compounding quarterly and paid at maturity) or non-cumulative basis (payouts sent monthly or quarterly to support regular cash flows).

Safety Meets Predictable Growth

While equity offers growth, Fixed Deposits offer stability. They are the bedrock of a diversified portfolio, providing guaranteed returns regardless of market volatility. Whether you are a conservative investor or looking for a safe haven for your emergency fund, FDs are an essential tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my money safe in a bank fixed deposit?

Yes, bank deposits are highly secure. Under the DICGC Cover, you get a Guaranteed Safety up to ₹5 Lakh per bank (covering both principal and interest) backed by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the RBI.

What is the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative FDs?

In cumulative FDs, the interest is reinvested quarterly and paid out in full at maturity, maximizing compound growth. In non-cumulative FDs, interest is paid out at regular intervals (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annually) to provide a steady income stream.

Can I withdraw my FD before maturity?

Yes, most banks allow premature withdrawals. However, this usually incurs a nominal penalty (typically 0.5% to 1% reduction in the applicable interest rate), and tax-saving FDs cannot be closed before their 5-year lock-in period.

Is Bank FD interest subject to taxation and TDS?

Yes, interest earned on bank fixed deposits is fully taxable according to your income tax slab. Banks deduct Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) if the annual interest income exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens). You can submit Form 15G/15H to prevent TDS if your total income is below the taxable threshold.
